This morning Colchester High School student, Dominik Brown was honored for his hard work, dedication and knowledge in the automotive field by being named a recipient of the 2020 Vermont Automobile Enthusiasts Golden Wrench Award. This award is given to 16 high school juniors across the state who are enrolled and excelling in an automotive technology program. Dom attends @burlingtontechnicalcenter In his application essay, Dom states that winning the award would prove that hard work and perseverance pays off in the long run if you work for it. No stranger to adversity, Dom, who credits his Grandmother for raising him and teaching him the ways of the world and his Grandfather for inspiring his love for automobiles, witnessed early on in his childhood that there are two paths you can take in life, and he resolved that he needed to find a way to take the right one. His essay included a paragraph that resonated with us, so we asked Dom’s permission to share it. “The three words I would use to best describe myself are strong, resilient, and passionate. I remind myself of these words when things start to feel overwhelming. Doing so reminds me to keep pushing forward and to focus on my future, not to get caught up in my past and current family struggles. I am strong because of the issues I have preserved through. I am resilient because I know better than to let things hold me back and I am passionate because you should love who you are and what you do.” His enthusiasm for automotive science and technology paired with his tenacity and determination gives him the goal to work full-time after high school while he saves up for his own shop. We have no doubt you’ll achieve that goal, Dom. Congratulations! Winners of the Golden Wrench award receive $1,500 worth of top of the line Mac Tools, a letter of commendation, a copy of the book “The Physics of NASCAR, The Science Behind the Speed” by Diandra Leslie-Pelecky, a one-year membership to the Vermont Automobile Enthusiasts, and tickets to their show in Stowe.
