BTC School Counseling Coordinator: James Yepez
My name is James Yepez, and I am the School Counseling Coordinator at Burlington Technical Center. This is my seventh year as a school counselor and second at BTC. Prior to moving to Vermontg, I worked at an urban public high school in Colorado Springs, Colorado, where I specialized in college & career counseling.
I received my Bachelor’s degree in Materials Science & Engineering at Lehigh University, Pennsylvania, where I also participated in Air Force ROTC. After graduation, I received my commission as an Air Force officer and spent the next twenty years in active military service. I performed a variety of jobs, including intelligence operations, engineering analysis, human resource management, and educational development. I received my Master’s degree in Counseling and Human Services with an emphasis in Educational Leadership from the University of Colorado Colorado Springs, and worked closely with cadets at the US Air Force Academy. That experience fueled my desire to continue supporting student development, and led to my decision to become a school counselor.
I am excited every day to work with the students and families at BTC. My wife Katrina is an elementary teacher in Addison County and we have two children in college, Anna and Jacob, as well as four very cool cats.
